I originally signed in using a user name but would like to change it to my own first name. Is it possible to do this.

Sorry, we don't permit name changes on Inward Quest anymore.
It's a feature that has been significantly abused in the past so it was withdrawn at the start of this year when we moved to new software. Also, we've found that every time someone changes their name, it causes considerable confusion to other users who don't realize what has happened and think they are interacting with a new user.
And we've also found that many of the comments/answers directly addressed to that individual also no longer make sense because that username no longer exists. You'll find this happening quite a bit on the older questions and answers where name changes have happened previously, before the ban was introduced.
Because Inward Quest is really more like Wikipedia than a discussion forum, the same questions can (and do) rotate into view again and again years later so consistency over time is important to avoid confusion. It just works out better for all concerned for everyone to have a consistent username on Inward Quest.
If you really dislike your existing username, all I can suggest is starting a new account with the new username and build it up from there. The previous account will be suspended since we only allow one active account at a time. Please let us know if you do this so we can suspend the previous account.
