I'm going to use this thread to provide the latest information on what's happening regarding the Inward Quest move.

The situation so far is that IQ Meta seems to be running reasonably well on our own server. It's been up for a few days now without any obvious problems which is a good sign because IQ Meta's software is what we are going to use for the new Inward Quest.

I've spent a few days altering the styling and layouts on IQ Meta to reasonably approximate what we have on Inward Quest (though with a different colour scheme).

Given the short timescales involved with the move (Inward Quest is being shut down on August 1), I'm probably going to stick with the current IQ Meta styling and layouts for the new main Inward Quest site and just alter the colours to make it look a bit more like the original Inward Quest again.

Once any fallout from the upcoming move has subsided, I'll gradually fix any remaining design/layout issues.

I still need to run a complete test import of all the information we currently have on Inward Quest and I'm going to set up another separate (disposable) test site to see if it all works. I'll be doing this within the next day or two.

Update 1 - July 29, 2011

The move has now been postponed. Inward Quest will continue as it is on the original site beyond August 1.

After spending a lot of time on this, it became clear a few days ago that something is not working properly with the data transfer software that was going to move all the postings and user accounts from the old IQ software to this new IQ software.

And it became clear that anything I was going to do to fix it myself would not be completed in time for August 1, the old site's termination date.

So I've been in touch with the people at StackExchange to explain the predicament and they have been gracious enough to grant Inward Quest a few more months of life to give me time to get the data across safely.

So, for now, the move has been postponed and there is now time to do this data transfer properly and safely.

Update 2 - October 14, 2011

I thought I should update this thread since I've not written anything for a while. We have until the last day of this year (2011) before the Inward Quest website is terminated from the Stack Exchange servers. So we definitely have to move the site before then.

There are still issues to resolve regarding transferring all the data (questions, answers, comments, points etc) to the new site, which will operate on this same software that IQ Meta runs on.

So the move is still "on hold" for now but it will definitely need to happen within the next couple of months.

Update 3 - December 19, 2011

We've had some obstacles to contend with but we are still on target to complete this move before the year end.

There will be an announcement on Inward Quest when we are ready to make the move and then the site will go offline for a few hours while we move everything over to the new software.

The question has been closed for the following reason "No longer relevant - Move has been completed before the deadline" by Simon Templeton Dec 31 '11 at 12:40

Simon, I will be praying that all will go well for you and all those who are involved with this move. While you are offline, we will keep involved in your progress via IQ Meta. Blessings, Jai

Thank you, Jai. Yes, the reason I'm pushing people to join IQ Meta (and why it was set up first) is that it will be the only way to let people know what's happening once Inward Quest goes offline during the period when the domain name is repointed.

Yes, thank you Simon for all the time and effort you are putting forth to maintain IQ. We really do appreciate it :) Michaela

Thank you, Michaela. IQ has become a pretty special and unique place on the internet thanks to the people that use it, and I'm just making my own contribution to it :-)

I know there must be heaps of things to do. but a +google button would not hurt IMHO

+1 buttons have now been added to both IQ Meta and IQ

+1 for that ;)

I like the fact that the time has been extended for the move, since it gives me more time to adjust, and adapt to the IQ Meta without feeling flustered, and overwhelm. Thank you Simon.
